Dr. Virgil Wood


Dr. Wood, narrator for “Til’ Justice Rolls Down: The Civil Rights Movement in Lynchburg, Virginia,” preached at Diamond Hill Baptist Church from 1955 until 1963. The Diamond Hill pastor was a close associate of Martin Luther King, Jr. Lynchburg’s foremost civil rights leader, among his many efforts, Dr. Wood organized mass meetings, started the Lynchburg Improvement Association (LIA), invited the Patterson Drug Store Sit-Inners to meet at Diamond Hill, and brought Martin Luther King, Jr., to Lynchburg in March of 1962.
